Su Wen-Chi
Choreographer & New Media Artist | Founder, YILAB | Based in Taiwan
Su Wen-Chi is a choreographer and new media artist. She began her career in 1998 as a dancer with Taipei Dance Circle in Taiwan and later Kobalt Works in Belgium, and in 2005 founded YILAB, dedicated to the fusion of technology and the performing arts. Since her 2016 residency at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, she has pursued a sustained dialogue between art and science, taking "body" and "matter" as the conceptual foundations of her work and exploring how cosmic phenomena such as waves, infinity, and gravity can be transformed into artistic experience through the body and technology.
Her work W.A.V.E. received the Alternative Design Gold Award at World Stage Design 2017, and Black Hole Museum + Body Browser was selected for the VR Works section of the 2023 Annecy International Animation Film Festival. She received the Jury's Special Award at the 9th Taishin Arts Award, and her collaboration with the Swiss house LA PRAIRIE was presented at Art Basel Miami Beach in 2021. In 2024 she was invited by Cloud Gate Dance Company to create Still Life for Spring Riot 2024.
Her work has been presented at Gu-Ling Street International Theatre Festival, Taiwan International Festival of Arts, Taipei Digital Arts Festival, C-LAB Taiwan Sound Lab, Asian Arts Theatre (South Korea), IRCAM Forum, SCOPITONE, Chroniques: Biennale of Digital Imagination, Annecy International Animation Film Festival (France), Kunstenfestivaldesarts (Belgium), Potsdamer Tanztage (Germany), Kalamata Dance Festival (Greece), Sparks CERN and La Bâtie Festival (Switzerland), Asia TOPA and Science Gallery Melbourne (Australia), among others.
