SU Wen-Chi is a choreographer and new media artist working and live in Taiwan
In 2005 SU founded YiLab. in Taiwan, an experimental group of new media and performance artists working on integrating new technology with the performing arts, and seeking to present new performing formats. YiLab.’s philosophy is: in a work, there is not just one dominant medium, only concepts that appear similar but collide with one another; every artist involved is an independent entity who can freely put forward their viewpoint and undertake in-depth exploration of the core significance of the theme.
SU is dedicated to exploring the creative form that integrates new media with performing arts and then responding with “bodies” to initiate the possibility of dialogue with the surroundings. She is known for interpreting philosophical issues of human warmth with seemingly cold technological methods. SU has been the artist-in-residence in the National Theater & Concert Hall in Taipei, in the project “Arts@CERN” at the European Organization for Nuclear Research(CERN) and in the Curtis R Priem Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center(EMPAC). Her works have been invited to perform at many prominent art festivals and venues both in Taiwan and abroad, such as the Taiwan International Festival of Arts, Digital Art Festival Taipei, KunstenFestivaldesArts in Belgium, Gwangju’s Asia Culture Center in South Korea, as well as La Bâtie Festival and Mapping Festival in Geneva, Switzerland. As one of Taiwan’s iconic figures in this field, SU has won the Jury’s Special Award in the 9th Taishin Arts Award and Alternative Design Gold Award in the 2017 World Stage Design Award.
